Translating Irish Culture into Italian – A Case Study
Dr Bianca Cataldi
This session focuses on the challenges and strategies involved in translating contemporary Irish literature in English for an Italian readership. Drawing on her experience translating the works of Anne Griffin, Dr Bianca Cataldi – lecturer in Italian at the University of Galway – examines how elements of Irish culture, idiomatic language, and narrative tone can be adapted for an Italian audience. The talk addresses issues of cultural transfer, linguistic equivalence, and the translator’s role in mediating between distinct literary traditions.
